Coeur d'Alene Tribe Leadership Camp

"Reverence for the past. Perseverance in the present. Protection for the future.

A residential leadership camp for Coeur d'Alene Tribe youth.

ABOUT THE CAMP

The Washington State University - Coeur d’Alene Tribe Leadership Development Camp is run by Camp Director: Cedric Price & Curriculum Director: Paula Groves Price. WSU faculty, staff, graduate students and CDA Tribe camp counsellors are contracted to guide learning experiences.

The Leadership Development Camp, designed for CDA Tribe Youth ages 13-17 years old, aims to develop and strengthen leadership, resiliency, and academic skills.

Through participation in team sports activities and specialized academic seminars, this one week residential camp offers students a chance to develop new skills, experience college life, and reflect upon and prepare to meet their goals for the future.

Preliminary data demonstrates that the camp has a significant impact in the lives of the students. This impact became very prevalent in the focus group interviews, particularly for those students who have returned to the camp for multiple years. The camp has had a positive influence on self esteem, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, academic and community involvement, and goal setting. The focus group interviews revealed that as a result of the camp, ALL participants thought more positively about college and planned to attend one in the future.

COEUR D'ALENE TRIBE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CAMP

Because there was always a commitment to the future, so will there always be a commitment to the past. The modern Coeur d' Alene Tribe is the sum of uncounted centuries and of untold generations. In the tribe's own ancient language, it is called Schitsu'umsh, meaning "Those who are found here," or "The discovered people." In this remains a land abundant in beauty and resources, a legacy of leadership, and a lineage that continues from time immemorial. The Coeur d' Alene's are who they always were and who they will always be.
